Why Vegan?

A vegan is a person who doesn't use or consume any animal product of any kind. I'm vegan for many reasons. I believe that as man we "dominate" the world, anything in our way we will simply stomp on it like it's a piece of trash. Really everything in this world should be equal and remain equal. It's kind of like the saying your kindergarten teacher used to preach to you... Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Then that relates to the whole what comes around goes around thing. I think man has forgotten that we descended from animals and that if it wasn't for them then we would have never been evoluntionalized. "The animals are beings that have feelings like me, they are like my brothers and sisters" -Ziggy Marley

When I found out what exactly happens to the animals in the process of collecting their bi-products or the actual killing, I was mortified. I couldn't believe for fourteen years of my life I always thought the animals lived on large green meadows, ate their natural surroundings, and mothers nursing there young. What I thought, was a lie. With the increase in demand of meats there is no possible way that every fillet would come from a traditional farm. And that's the point when i started to research everything about livestock. They way companies kill animals is the most inhumane, horrifying, disgusting, and sad process you would ever hear of. Not to mention all the pollution involved. I wont get into full details because it's very gory, but in my later blog i will explain the different types of animals and what they go through. I do not support any animals used for entertainment, such as tigers being forced to jump through rings of fire in cirrus's. It just doesn't make sense to me, a tiger doesn't belong fulfilling ludicrous orders to create laughter, they belong in the wild. I do not wear any animal furs or skins. I mean you don't see animals dressed up in expensive human skin do you? I do not support animal testing, again if you don't want to try an experiment on a man then don't try it on an animal. I try to buy organic, fair-trade, and Eco friendly products to better the earth, for it is all we have. I am not perfect, but the damage we have caused to this earth we call home is tremendous. We can fix and prevent any further damage by changing our dated habits with new modern ways. I am only fifteen but the rate I'm going at by being involved in such topics is invigorating. 1. It happened the same to me: discovering the truth behind the meat and all the meat related industry (eggs, diary...) was a shocking experience for me. I looked for more information, and it changed my point of view for always. I just couldn't see it as food anymore :S

About the funny/annoying/strange situations...Usually I complain about the place where I live (near Barcelona) but in the south the situation is even worsein Spain as well. Here, people don't know what "vegan" means, but most of them have a vague idea of what a "vegetarian" is (even if it's a wrong idea, but at least they know the word). Go to Granada an say that you're vegetarian ¬¬ I bet they will look at you as if you were talking in Chinese >.< Also, it's the land of the bullfighting :(

But I've learned to take it easy. And to mainly eat at home :P

  2. haha I was in Barcelona over spring break and to be safe I went to the markets and made my own food. I visited the gaudi buildings and they're AMAZING! I couldn't believe that one guy came up with these beautiful and bazzar building plans. Barcelona is beautiful!
